The Waiting Game

On my shortened lunch break (I don't even know why I pretend I take lunch breaks), I have decided to do a little Waiting Game venting... UGH! This stuff is killing me!

OK, it's not killing me, but it's certainly nerve-wracking.

Today has been a particularly big day in terms of my thesis. I sent 30 requests to 30 NHL teams requesting they help distribute my surveys. As expected, I've received a handful of polite rejections. (Even if one of my favorite teams rejected me quickly, I am happy to report that my first rejection came from a team I'm not so fond of. More reasons to be bitter and aggressive toward them when I'm not being professional about hockey. Muahaha.) Watching the inbox has been an exercise in futility, but when I do receive an e-mail I'm completely giddy and gnawing at my own arm just to see if it's positive news.

WELL (!), that said... Melanie is working her tail off while waiting impatiently to hear about thesis survey distribution, right? Why not make it worse?! I mean, if we're going to have a day of playing the Waiting Game, I might as well go all-out. As Mom always says, "If you're going to do something, do it right." (This applies to screwing up as much as succeeding, of course. I mean, if you're going to go down doing something, might as well do it with flames, sparkles and fireworks going off in your wake.)

So I decided to e-mail all the programs (sans Syracuse) and ask when I might hear from them and if/how they handle any university visits. (Hell if I'm going to dedicate the next three to four years of my life to a city and NOT visit the place first.) The reports are flying in! Florida sends a notification 2-3 weeks after a file is complete, meaning I should hear from them soon. Ohio State likes to have their decisions made by the end of March (really? March? That's like 20 years away!). Then, of course, we know Syracuse is doing their interview dealie at the end of February. Oh, the excitement! Here's hoping I hear from Penn State and Temple soon.

Toodles, yo.
